About Maren Tigges

Yoga Teacher, Artist, Massage Therapist & Singer

I’m Maren Tigges, 24 years old and the artist behind ‘marendalas‘. I specialize in mandala design and feel incredibly blessed to live my passion and to call myself an artist. Unless I am traveling around the globe and gathering new inspiration, I can be found in my home studio in Aachen, Germany, producing beautiful drawings, prints and other delightful products.

My goal is to add beauty to the world by creating art that fascinates people by it’s sheer intricacy and attention to detail. As an artist, yoga teacher and student, I am striving to live a vibrant life of self-expression, freedom and gratitude.

My vision is to inspire others to playfully explore their own creativity and to take their creative dreams seriously.

About Mandalas

The term ‘mandala’ is rooted in the ancient language of Sanskrit and means ‘whole’ or ‘complete’. In a more literal sense it can be translated as ‘circle’.

The mandala is a fascinating artform, that is characterized by symmetry and repetition of patterns. Each mandala is based around a central point from which it emanates outwards in a circular manner.

The symbolism of the mandala originates from ancient eastern cultures. Examples can be found in Hindu, Buddhist and other traditions, which view it as an expression of the cosmos, the soul, or Divinity itself.

About the Art

My dreamy and soulful illustrations are inspired by travel, nature and human connection. Beauty, femininity and spirituality are additional themes that I explore throughout my work.

Since starting to draw mandalas in 2015, I have been honing my skills and my creations have become increasingly intricate. My art is drawn by hand using black ink fineliners on sustainably sourced high-quality paper. For my murals I use black acrylic paint markers. Recently I have started exploring the medium of digital art as well.

At this point, I utilise the circular shape of the mandala as a framework, from which I allow myself to create freely. So you will see artworks of mine that extend beyond the classical look of mandalas.

When I follow my inspiration, my artworks are pouring out of me intuitively. For me, drawing is a meditative and introspective process, an expressive way to connect to a higher part of myself. I strongly believe in the power of art as a transformational tool, and share this in my workshops. I hope that my visuals enhance inspiration and beauty in your life. It’s such a joy to have you on this journey with me!

With much love and gratitude,

Maren
